Power Up 2009 Conference and Expo is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday,
April 27 and 28, 2009. Power Up Conference and Expo has a mission of strengthening the capacity of people with disabilities, educators, independent living staff, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, physical therapists, information technology technicians, librarians and media specialists, and service providers. Power Up features a variety of sessions which provide up-to-date information on disability related policy, assistive technology services and devices, independent living issues, educational policy and practices, and information technology accessibility to enhance and promote independence of people with disabilities.

Training
Missouri Assistive Technology provides training events on assistive technology, policies and related issues through direct sponsorship of training programs, coordination of training, and production and distribution of training materials. Additional training events are held as needed to meet specific assistive technology training needs.
Accessible Materials Training
Missouri Assistive Technology is offering the second of a two-part training for local education agency (LEA) staff to increase capacity to produce accessible instructional materials utilizing the National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standards (NIMAS) file sets.

- Producing Accessible Materials: NIMAS File Set Conversion (Part 2)
- Friday, October 17th, 2008
- 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
- Hilton Garden Inn, Columbia, MO
- Purpose of training: To provide instruction on utilizing NIMAS file sets to produce hard copy alternative format materials including embossed Braille and large print. Specific techniques will be provided for production of Braille Ready Files (BRF) to be used with Braille translation programs and Braille embossers along with utilization of RTF to produce large print.
- Pre K-12 Participants: Session attendees must be responsible for the production of accessible instructional materials in their district, be willing to share information and skills acquired with other districts in their geographic area, have basic knowledge of disability access issues and assistive technology options for students with disabilities, and be competent in general computer applications.
Training will be limited to 50 participants. Lunch and refreshments will be provided along with overnight lodging expenses for participants traveling 90 miles or more.

- any vegetarian meal requests.
* LEAs that participated in both the summer and fall trainings are eligible to apply for grant funds to acquire assistive technology needed by the LEA to support delivery of accessible instructional materials to students with disabilities.
